A mystery for two: NoHonor (coming soon)
NoHonor's two-player mode is coming soon: four cards face up for both of you, seven each, and a straight logic duel over who took the loot, how they cracked the safe and where it's stashed. Until it arrives, two of you can play now by adding a bot as the third seat. More in Three to Six Players.
A classic duel: chess
Lichess is free and open source, with games from one minute to days per move. Play live on a call or by correspondence across time zones.
Board games: Board Game Arena
Hundreds of board games, many for two, with real-time and turn-based play. Some games need a paid membership.
Drawing: skribbl.io
Make a private room and take turns drawing and guessing. It's better with more people, but two works for a laugh.
Tips for long-distance game nights
- Turn-based games fit different time zones: play a move when you wake up.
- Keep the call on while you play; half the fun is the reaction.
- Pick a regular night. A standing date beats planning each time.
Questions
Can two people play NoHonor? Not on your own yet: add a bot to make a three-player game. A two-player mode is coming soon.
